Born in Arroyo Blanco on May 5, 1930, Family genealogy: his father and grandparents came from la Costilla to Ventero, NM. He was named after his grandfather 'Manuel Salvador Arellano'. Arellanos and other Hispanic families in el Bermejo and Cimarrón. In the period of 1910-1915 an American rancher, owner of the Taylor Ranch, moved to San Luis and took over the lands pushing the Hispanic families out of the area. It appears that the interviewee is showing some family pictures to the interviewer; Los Santisteban, Los Ribera, ranchers in the 1920s. In 1912 his father and other men Filomeno Maestas, Pedro Aragón, Daniel Ortega among others came for the first time to this area [El Ventero] to establish their homes as homesteaders. Los Villalpando and other characters that were related to his family. Looking at a map to locate the areas where his family and neighbors used to live. A cousin of his, Luis Lucero, was the guardian of the Merced de Maxwell. Other Arellanos related to him in Amalia and Ventero. Gavino Arellano, his father's cousin, had a large family of 14 children. Talking about a family reunion of the Arellanos where he met a female cousin from Costilla who used to take care of a priest in Mora 'el padre Cassidy', recalling the Cassidies: Alberto Cassidy a plumbing teacher who lived in Colorado. Ways of commuting from Amalia to Ventero in the past; crossing the Río Chama and the Sierra. Conversation continues by describing pictures of his family members and some well known people in the Valle de Costilla.
