Barros, a full-time instructor at Central New Mexico Community College (CNM), discusses the development and implementation of Open Educational Resources (OER) for electrical and motor control theory education. Developed through a grant collaboration with the University of New Mexico (UNM), the initiative aims to reduce textbook costs, improve accessibility, and support student retention in electrical training programs.

Drawing on his extensive experience in the electrical industry and technical education, Barros highlights the benefits of affordable, customizable instructional materials that can adapt to evolving student needs and industry requirements. The presentation also shares student feedback emphasizing cost savings, convenience, and accessibility, along with enrollment and estimated savings data from 2025. Overall, the project demonstrates how OER can help make career and technical education more affordable, flexible, and responsive to workforce needs.
