77) The bateria (responsible for providing the music and rhythm for the samba school) in the carnaval parade. Samba is the most popular form of Afro-Brazilian music and it appeared as an urban dance in the early Twentieth century in Rio de Janeiro. In the yearly traditional samba parade, rival samba schools compete for the honor to be the best. These schools began in the Nineteenth century as black communities and served primarily as means of expression for the underprivileged black and mulatto populations. Today, the parade attracts numerous tourists, yet it has become quite commercialized.77) Bateria (responsável pela música e ritmo da escola de samba) no desfile de carnaval. O samba é a forma mais popular de música afro-brasileira, e apareceu como dança urbana no começo do século XX, no Rio de Janeiro. No tradicional desfile anual de carnaval, escolas de samba rivais competem pela honra de ser a melhor. Estas escolas começaram a surgir no início do século XIX, como comunidades negras, e serviam originariamente como meio de expressão das populações desprivilegiadas de negros e mulatos. Nos dias de hoje, o desfile atrai inúmeros turistas, apesar de ter-se tornado bastante comercial.
