Rio de Janeiro is considered the samba capital of Brazil, nevertheless, carnaval and samba is a part of Brazilian culture throughout the entire country. There are, however, regional carnaval varieties, most notably in Salvador, Recife or Manaus. The origins of samba go back to the African slaves who were forced to move to Brazil and brought with them their music and dance. African music was characterized by its variety of rhythmic expressions enhanced by percussion and drum instruments or clapping which produced contagious patterns of movements that were expressed in dance.76) Batucada de samba na praia da Barra da Tijuca. O Rio de Janeiro é considerado a capital do samba do Brasil, apesar do carnaval e samba serem parte da cultura brasileira por todo o país. Há, no entanto, variações regionais de carnaval, notadamente em Salvador, Recife ou Manaus. As origens do samba remontam aos escravos africanos, que, forçados a vir para o Brasil, traziam consigo sua música e sua dança. A música africana é caracterizada pela variedade de expressões rítmicas, realçadas por instrumentos de percussão ou palmas, que produzem modelos contagiantes de movimentos, expressos através da dança.
