Description
75) Mãe-de-Santo priestess giving advice to a young girl at Copacabana beach. Syncretism has deeply affected all of Afro-Brazilian culture but especially religion. Slavery uprooted the slaves from the African continent but seemed to unite and mix their cultures in Brazil with influences from existing Indian and Portuguese cultures. Although most Brazilians say they are Catholics, the number of Afro-Brazilian cults have been growing and it would be wrong to assume they appeal only to low income black or mulatto classes.75) Mãe-de-Santo aconselhando uma garota na praia de Copacabana. O sincretismo afetou profundamente toda a cultura afro-brasileira, especialmente a religião.
