La tradición Atrisqueña: life based on farming and sheep herding. Los bailes [parties]. Life was simpler than the present. People used to tell jokes or recite verses in parties to have fun. Adivinanzas, dichos, chants, dichos religiosos. The religiosity of the people in Atrisco in the past. Los velorios [funerals], prayers by las rezadoras, the prayers and baptisms of the new born in Atrisco. The patron of farming 'San Isidro Labrador'. People used to have a lot of land in Atrisco, but with outside people moving in, locals sold their lands and the original owners ended up living on the welfare. La Merced de Atrisco has been mismanaged by the various council officers. More religious chanting and medicinal herbs to heal the sick: el oshá, el inmortal para el resfrío, la hierba de la víbora para los riñones. Las curanderas y las parteras. The new mothers used to eat lamb to heal well after childbirth. El curandero, usually from indigenous tribes. Friendly and good relations with Indians. She was a teacher in Atrisco. Parents used to be supportive of the teacher and the school. People used to volunteer to help with school maintenance. Envy was not predominant in the community in the past.
