Abstract
This paper has three objectives; first, it is a research project in which pictures which appear significant to me are analyzed to account for their power; second, it is designed to assist the reader in understanding the problems and concerns which I face as a painter and the reasons for my admiration of those pictures discussed in this paper; and third, in keeping with Eliot’s view that new works of art change the value and meaning of previous art, I hope to provide some insight into these past works as seen through my paintings and the recent art which has shaped my ideas.
