Continued: La Mercedes de Maxwell and San Andres and how the government took advantage of the New Mexican settlers by taking large portions of the lands that belonged to them by the Guadalupe Hidalgo Treaty. His grandparents on her mother side, The Garcías, came from Spain and settled down in Santa Fe. Land rights and the struggle for respecting the treaty, Tijerina, the Maxwell Company. His mother was native from Mora. He attended school in Buena Vista.  Talking about his wife's family genealogy: Los Garcías from Spanish descent. Spanish language in schools and the loss of this language as there are no more newspapers issued in Spanish to read and keep up with the news in Spanish. More on local people in Springer, and surrounding areas in the Mora County, politicians, and his Republican party affiliation. Estimate of the population, about 23,000 people in the area. Later, people started to migrate to Colorado and other areas for better paid jobs. Colfax Ct. was established in 1869 by the Anglo American people's pressure. Don Demetrio left his job as borreguero to come to Colfax Ct. Talks about his children and their families. Talking about Bernardo Baca, the Encinias, and other local families.
