Family genealogy, Moved from Fort Garland, CO. to Alamosa and eventually established in La Cebolla, NM. Talks about marriage proposals in the past, means of transportation: cars pulled by horses. She married Justiniano Atencio from Los Pinos, NM. She was 16 when she got married. The traditional ritual of marriage proposal and gifts [la pedida de mano, el prendorio y el casorio], calabazas, her wedding and celebration with violin music. When they came from Los Pinos to Las Nutrias in a buggy, they passed by Indian encampments. Story about a woman named Isaa who was the dressmaker in the village. Memories about her early years as a married woman, husband was a sheep shearer and repaired cars. She used to do embroidery, talks about her children. One of her children passed of 'ojo' [mal de ojo], talks about the remedy to cure 'El Ojo'. They eventually moved from Las Nutrias to La Lagunita in Cebolla to work in their own ranch. Crops they used to farm: coles, sacate [Lemom grass], avena, trigo. No agricultural machinery to assist the farming work, harvesting with 'hozes pequeñas' [small sickles]. She did the plastering of their house [el enjarrado], description of her house, furniture, dishes. and estufa de leña, raising her children in Lagunita.
