Las comidas de antes: tortillas de harina flor solo los Domingos y de maiz el resto de la semana, food prices, quelites, maiz, frijol, calabaza, they slaughtered a 'marrano' [hog] and made chicharrones, they did not purchase manteca [pork lard], his father used to have sheep and cattle, means of transportation; horses and cars pulled by horses. Labor force relied only on the human strength not on automated machines, working 'partiendo leña' [cutting wood]. He continues talking about food preservation [empacaban], foods, atole, cuajada, blanquillos, and other foods he had in his parents' ranch, stories about life in the ranch, víboras, which he feared a lot. They used to sow and harvest potatoes, tomatoes, chile, onions. His land and crops in Arroyo Seco, recogiendo y vendiendo leña, y postes a un Americano, hunting venados that entered his ranch. He regrets having sold his ranch and lands. Cuento de unos viejitos: Juan flojo y su patrón, verses about Juan Luna, Martin Chavez, Juan Barrera, Andres Pacheco, and other local characters.
