Description
Introduction to Fiction Writing: An OER Collection (an OER collection on Pressbooks) is a textbook designed to introduce students to the craft of writing fiction and storytelling while helping them develop their own creative voice. The book explains important elements of creative writing such as narrative structure, character development, dialogue, imagery, and style. It encourages writers to experiment with language and storytelling techniques in order to produce engaging and original works. Through explanations, examples, and writing exercises, the text guides students in understanding how stories are constructed and how writers can use literary techniques to communicate emotions, ideas, and experiences effectively.
The book also emphasizes the importance of revision, feedback, and participation in writing workshops. Students learn how to critique and improve their work through collaboration with other writers and instructors, gaining insight into both the strengths and weaknesses of their writing. Workshops help writers refine their skills, explore different styles and perspectives, and build a supportive creative community where constructive feedback encourages growth and confidence as a writer.
