Abstract
Standardized Patient programs receive many requests to create performance assessments or supply standardized patients for a variety of educational activities. Estimating the cost can be both daunting and time consuming. However, accurate expense estimates create opportunities for revenue and support budget requests for programmatic development and expansion. Building on the work of others (Hodges), the University of New Mexico School of Medicine (UNMSOM) Assessment & Learning program has crafted a comprehensive method for estimating expenses that captures both programmatic costs (staff time) and the direct costs of standardized patient salaries and materials.
