Abstract
For the purpose of this study which is to compare the current popular song in New Mexico and the popular song in Mexico, an historical background will be laid for both songs and then an attempt will be made to ascertain the New Mexico production and contribution to the repertoire of popular songs now considered as New Mexico.
To do this the origin and development of the Mexican and New Mexican songs will be traced, and there will follow a comparison of the two groups to find similarities or differences in theme, type and other important characteristics.
