Abstract
Monthly Bulletin of the Employment Security Commission of New Mexico (June and July 1948) presents a comprehensive review of employment security activities, unemployment compensation, veterans' benefits, agricultural labor programs, and employment service operations in New Mexico during June and July 1948. The bulletin highlights the impact of federal budget reductions on Employment Security Agency operations, including staff layoffs and reductions in local services, at a time when nonagricultural employment had reached a record high and agricultural labor demand was increasing. The bulletin also includes six-month summaries of local office activities and industry placement trends, demonstrating the importance of construction, trade, transportation, and service industries in New Mexico's postwar economy. As a historical source, the publication offers valuable insight into labor market conditions, workforce development programs, unemployment insurance administration, and economic growth during the late 1940s.
