Abstract

PowerPoint is an indispensable tool in our teaching arsenal to create multimedia presentations that combine images and text. However, many who use PowerPoint have never been trained in graphic design. In this presentation, we will review evidence-based principles of graphic design that can help educators create presentations with clarity and impact. We will focus on the effective use of color and contrast--two powerful preattentive features which, when used well, can align visual salience with the relevant material in your presentation. We will also review visual accessibility for learners, including consideration for those with visual impairment and color blindness.
