Abstract
Frank Murphy (1890-1949) had a remarkable career as a politician and a jurist. Most of his productive years were spent serving President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the New Deal in various capacities. Up until 1940, when Murphy was appointed to the Supreme Court, his career was essentially political. It is this portion of Murphy's life which is treated in this dissertation.
