Abstract
As I indicate in the introduction to this study, the tendency in Wordsworth criticism has been to make a fragile, spiritual mystery of the poet by stressing the transcendental nature of his work. It seems to me, however, that he is a poet solidly grounded in the reality of the external world. His interest in the concrete reality of things can be clearly determined, I believe, by an examination of his visual apprehension of the external world as it is expressed in his work. This study is an effort at such an examination.
