Abstract
A significant development of the twentieth-century has been the emergence in the United States and in other industrialized nations of a way of life increasingly oriented toward leisure rather than work. The body of knowledge gradually being formulated to cope with this new concern is still lacking in at least one important dimension. Insufficient attention has been given to the role of value orientations in the formation of attitudes toward leisure and leisure pursuits.
