Abstract
In recent years there has been considerable research done concerning teaching the social studies at all grade levels. Much of the research has been done in the curriculum area, the subject matter content to be taught, interests of children in the social studies and the sequence of units to be taught. However this writer found no literature that discussed the area of readiness for the social studies subject matter at any grade level.
