Abstract
The purpose of this study is (1) to investigate the existing conditions in the county and municipal superintendencies of New Mexico with regard to study responsibility and financial responsibility, academic preparation and educational experience of the superintendents, salaries paid, opportunities of salary increases, turnover, term of contract, and opportunities offered by superintendents for advancement to more remunerative educational positions; (2) to compare the status of New Mexico superintendencies with that of other superintendencies of the United States and with the ideal status as recommended by authorities in the field of educational administration and supervision.
