Abstract
Leisure is embraced by all class levels. Whereas total leisure was once an indicator of aristocratic position, as it was in Athens during the Golden Age of Greece, or that of the bum who shirks social responsibility, leisure has become increasingly significant in all levels of social stratification. Though leisure is no longer an indicator of class position, the recreation activities in which people indulge during their leisure may exhibit lines of social stratification.
