Abstract
A gap exists in present-day knowledge of the electric fields in the earth which are radiated from elevated antenna structures in the earth-air-ionosphere waveguide. It is the purpose of this paper to present a method of estimating the electric field at the earth-air boundary, caused by elevated antenna structures, and to show the existence of new phenomena that may lead to an improved design of communication systems.
