Downtown area of colonial Cachoeira. Sugar and tobacco estates flourished in the Reconcavo region and by the end of the Seventeenth century, Bahia was known throughout the world as one of Portugal's wealthiest regions. Rich landowners built lavish mansions and churches in the region.Área central da cidade colonial de Cachoeira. As propriedades de açúcar e tabaco prosperaram na região do Recóncavo e ao final do século XVII, a Bahia era mundialmente reconhecida como uma das regiões mais ricas pertencentes a Portugal.
