It is unfortunate that Brazil's political leaders have still not been able to successfully tackle the problems afflicting its poorest citizens. Unfortunately, the undeniable economic growth of the "miracle years" was achieved at a social cost only now being calculated, and the country faces daunting challenges saddled by the largest debt in the developing world. The high crime rate in Rio and other urban areas, which has increased in recent years because of the cocaine trade, has worried Brazilian authorities.61) Um homem desabrigado dormindo em um banco de parque no bairro Glória. Infelizmente, os líderes políticos do Brasil ainda não foram capazes de lidar com os problemas que afligem seus cidadãos mais pobres. Infelizmente, o inegável crescimento dos "anos do milagre" foi alcançado a um custo social só agora calculado, e o país depara-se com assustadores desafios agravados pelo maior débito no mundo em desenvolvimento. A alta taxa de criminalidade no Rio e outras áreas urbanas, que cresceu nos últimos anos devido ao tráfico de cocaína, preocupa autoridades brasileiras.
