Description
93. Composição (Composition), 1956-1962. The flat, geometric, and apparently abstract designs in Rubem Valentim's paintings and sculptures are, in fact, references to symbols employed in Afro-Brazilian religious ritual. Not surprisingly, they are similar to those that appear in Haitian art and in the canvases of the Cuban artist Wifredo Larn.
