Aerial view of the Boa Viagem district of Recife (PE). Many of the rural migrants in the Northeast first try their luck in the burgeoning cities of the region before moving to São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro or other cities in the southern part of the country. Regional industrialization efforts and economic development has been slow but increasing in the Northeast and these have been concentrated in Fortaleza (CE, pop. 1.9 million), Recife (PE, pop. 2S million) and Salvador (BA, pop. 2.1 million).Vista aérea do bairro de Boa Viagem em Recife (PE).
