Description
The regular Transbraziliana bus line travels from Santarém (PA) to Marabá (PA) on the stretch that still can be used of the Transamazónica. At this point the bus crosses the Xingu river, one of many barge crossings. The bus has large tires to survive the rough roads and mudo Intra-regional transportation and integration was the objective of the Transamazónica highway. With few exceptions, it is largely unpaved, unused and unsettled despite the governrnent's ambitious plan to establish landless farnilies along its approximately 2,500 kilometers. Traffic on other highways increased tremendously and has been an important source of local development and population growth.Alinha de ónibus Transbasiliana vai de Santarém (PA) a Marabá (PA) num trecho que ainda pode ser usado na Transamazónica. Nesse ponto o ónibus cruza o Rio Xingu, um dos muitos cruzamentos por balsa. O ónibus é equipado de grandes pneus apropriados às estradas irregulares e à lama. O transporte e integração entre as regiões foi o objetivo da Transamazónica. Com poucas exceções ela se encontra largamente asfaltada, não usada e não povoada a despeito do plano ambicioso do governo para o estabelecimento de famílias ao longo da rodovia de aproximadamente 2.500 km de extensão. O tráfego em outras rodovias aumentou tremendamente e tem sido importante fonte de desenvolvimento local e crescimento populacional.
