Alcohol gas pump near Porte Alegre (RS). As an alternative energy source, the Brazilian government has invested in a large scale program, by which cars run on alcohol produced from sugarcane. A large percentage of Brazilian automobiles run on such fuel, though the rise and fall of international petroleum prices directly determines the cost efficiency of the program.Um posto de álcool próximo de Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. Como fonte alternativa de energia, o governo brasileiro investiu num programa de grande escala, pelo qual automóveis são movidos a álcool, produzido da cana-de-açúcar. Uma grande percentagem de carros brasileiros é movida por tal combustível, embora as altas e baixas dos preços internacionais do petróleo afetem diretamente a eficiência do programa.
