Las costumbres en Atrisco, la gente era muy unida. Her husband was a rancher and had farm animals when they moved to Atrisco, but his animals got sick and died, so they left for California in search of a better life. However, they returned to 'El Wache" [El Arenal-Atrisco]. The changes in the community, there was not tap water, no bathrooms inside the house. People used to talk to each other and socialized more in the past. Sings alabado 'Nuestro Señor Jesucristo'. Women used to sew and make dresses. The patrons of the town: Santa Ana and San Isidro Labrador. Family history, the celebrations when a new baby was born, the bailes and the religiosity of the people in the community. It used to rain more rain than now and there was plenty of water for the crops. The changes in the area with more people and traffic have brought about more individualism and environmental degradation. The loss of the Spanish language in younger generations after WWII; children were not allowed to speak Spanish in school.  Luisa says that her children are not fluent in Spanish as she stopped talking to them in Spanish because she did not want them to be punished in school. But they try and speak Spanish as they can hear it spoken by her and her husband.
