Continued: describing the style of hats and jackets the cowboys used to wear at that time. Their entertainment was to tame horses in el Llano, an area close to el Manzano. A story about an old man who used to help people heal from broken bones by using alamo tree leaves. There were no doctors, but people relied on herbs to cure common health issues. The most prominent politicians in the area: Antonio Candelaria (his uncle) and Luis Martinez. His views of politics and stories of some members of his family that were very involved in politics. Eutimio Romero, a popular composer of corridos. El Nuevomexicano, a newspaper in Spanish issued in Santa Fe was popular among the people in his town. Conversation returns to his beginnings playing the accordion and local musicians. He was borreguero for very short time, as he was very phobic of the snakes in the prairies where they used to shepherd sheep. Memories of the wild life in his father's ranch and sheriff Block who hung two mexican men. He was a rancher and worked as a 'cuartonero' [lumberjack]. More on the story of the 'chota' [cop] Block, an American sheriff that did not like Mexicans. Epifanio was borreguero [sheep herder] for Tomas Bachicha, a rich rancher in Encino who had 2,000 sheep. Stories about Elfego Baca and Billy the Kid. Memories of the relations with the 'gabachos' [white people]. Las víboras [rattle snakes] in the open range and in the ranches. A story of rattle snake hunters and how they used to cook them.
