Born in 1906. Memories of her childhood in Atrisco. She comes from a family of nine children, but she was raised by another family, so she became their single child. Her husband's family, los casorios en Atrisco. Los Hubbles, a rich family in Atrisco. The funerals, families used to live on working the land; regaban sus jardines con el agua de las acequias. Las hierbas and foods her mother used to fix. People used to visit each other very often when she was young. She went to school in Armijo. Memories of the San Jose church where there was mass once a month. Las matanzas [slaughtering of cattle]. There were not dentists in town, but her grandfather used to extract people's teeth. There were no libraries when she was young, but the books that were available were religious books. They used to pray a lot, especially the Rosary. Young people and children used to be very obedient and respectful of their parents. The law and order in Atrisco; members of her family were part of the police and court. She heard stories about Los Penitentes, but she never saw them. Las tienditas [small stores] in Atrisco. The furniture in the homes in Atrisco, dress making and poverty as people used to have only a pair of outfits to dress, one for the daily wear and one for special occasions.
