Abstract
This thesis shall be an examination of the various ideas and interests which have influenced my photography. The discussion will concentrate on the four main bodies of work I have produced since I became seriously involved with photography. The photographs in the first group were done during the years from 1974 through 1976 while I was living in Lansing, Michigan and working as a commercial photographer. The next series of photographs was created between 1976 and 1977, shortly after I began my post-graduate studies at the University of New Mexico. The third body of work is entitled "The Interrupted Landscape" and was produced during the 1977/78 school year. In the fall of 1978 I began working on a series of photographs which has been given the title "Avenues and Alleyways.” My present involvement with photography is represented by this final group of images. Each phase of my artistic development is explored in order to discover the concerns and understandings which have contributed to my growth as an artist.
