Abstract
A substantial number of books and articles has been devoted to the work of John Marin. Each of these, expressing something of the man’s poetic involvement with his work, has dealt with one or more aspects of the artist’s development. Although many have mentioned the fact that Marin spent two summers in and around Taos, New Mexico, no special study has been made of this important period in the artist’s life. A study of this nature is the purpose of this thesis.
