Background Information:

These interview recordings are part of the Anselmo Arellano collection (MSS 1140), Center for Southwest Research, UNM. In 1994, 1998, 2000 and 2005, Anselmo Arellano and Tobias Duran interviewed Rubén Cobos, who was a preeminent folklorist and linguist of New Mexican Spanish language and culture. The interviews were recorded on VHS and audio cassette tapes at Cobos' home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The interviews include discussions about Cobo's life and career as an educator and translator and his ethnographic and linguistic work with New Mexican Spanish language "un español delicioso" as he stated, and music and folklore traditions of the Nuevomexicanos, whom he affectionately called "hispanitos."
