Abstract
This biography traces the development and impact of the famed historian, Walter Prescott Webb, from his humble beginnings on the West Texas plains to historian of international acclaim. Through interviews with relatives, professional associates, and investigation of personal papers in archival collections, a remarkable success story unfolds. His death in an auto accident March 8, 1963, meant not only the loss of a personal friend to many, but also the loss of a prize-winning author and visionary whose challenging ideas reflected concerns so vital to society that there were those who resolved that investigation of these ideas and their ramifications would be continued.
