Abstract
Engaging with theoretical concepts and dramaturgical tools, this essay follows my journey before and through The Dramatic Writing MFA program at the University of New Mexico, ending with a focus on the production of my thesis play, SINK, and how it embodies the theories and practices that define my creative process, relating it to playing a game. In Part I, I give the background and development of my journey as a playwright, exploring my artistic career before the program, and the obstacles I faced and overcame through my engagement with coursework and staged readings. In Part II, I focus on my thesis play SINK and how it reflects my embodied practice of play in my writing. Throughout both sections, I use my experience in and out of the program to formulate my embodied practice both as a playwright and theatre maker, utilizing play and joy at the center of my means of creation.
