Abstract
Events of the last two presidential elections and the ever-present conflict over electoral redistricting planted the seed for this discussion, watered by my personal experience. Many of the democratic republics of the industrialized world cleave to ideals of universal suffrage, some more affirmatively than others. This work examines the nature and differences in how these nations apply this simple principle and answer the question, "Is disenfranchisement of any population a deprivation of fundamental Human Rights and even a revocation of citizenship?" In addressing this question, several historically marginalized groups will be examined, with a particular focus on the disenfranchisement of convicted felons in the United States.
