Abstract
My current research focuses on the application of OpenCV face detection algorithms in generative art. I am interested in how various technological modes of viewing mediate and transform our construction of individual and cultural meaning. The content of my work is material culture, specifically human consumption as a means of identity formation. Material culture refers to the totality of physical objects or artifacts used by a society. I am primarily interested in objects made “real” to the owner through use. I compose digital worlds using real world objects, visuals, and sound to facilitate interaction. I see people’s attraction to interactive technology as a way of drawing their attention back to objects whose collective meaning has been forgotten.
