Abstract
The concern here is with a less well known (but perhaps in the long run as significant) part of his life. Relatively little has been written about Fall's early career as a successful and important public figure. Almost every textbook of American history includes a short paragraph recounting his failures. Few even mention his achievements. Big victories were won against a background of great adventure in the Western tradition. It was a time of playing for high stakes and A.B. Fall was a great gambler. In fairness, it seems that that story should also be told.
