Abstract

Recognized as one of the nation's major health problems today, mental illness is affecting millions of lives. As a consequence, more and more people are becoming acquainted with the symptoms, problems and methods of treatment of the mentally ill and emotionally disturbed. Although the public is becoming increasingly aware or the problems of mental health, and despite the fact that advances have been made in effective psychiatric treatment, there still exist anachronistic and ineffective theories and practices of treating the mentally ill.
