Abstract
The structure and fluctuations of the infrared airglow were studied at 1.65 and 2.15 μ. The emission at 1.65 μ is due to the (5,3) and (6,4) rotation-vibration bands of the OH molecule, and the 2.15 μ emission is due to the (9 , 7) OH band. Observations were made at Capilla Peak Observatory, New Mexico, and Haleakala Observatory, Hawaii, using two scanning photometers, of apertures 12 and 24 inches, equipped with interference filters and lead sulphide cells as detectors. The photometers have fields of view of the order of one degree, permitting the resolution of very small-scale spatial structure.
