Background Information:
Puntos de Vista (Points of View): A Westside Neighborhood Newsletter was a publication produced by local residents of the Baca District neighborhood of Santa Fe from 1989 to 1998 that shared community stories, cooking recipes of residents, political opinions, and announcements. Volume I, Issue 2 newsletter begins with a neighborhood meeting announcement and a summary of major points discussed at the last meeting on July 27, 1989, where the Environmental Improvement Division discussed PNM’s contamination of the water well and soil on six acres of property within the neighborhood. The newsletter was an avenue of communication that cultivated community cohesion and advocacy allowing residents expressed concerns over the health and well-being of themselves and the environment, acknowledged community service and noteworthy academic achievements, advertised educational and business opportunities, church and local events.
