Abstract
The NMOER Workflow for Authors outlines a structured, collaborative process for developing, reviewing, producing, and publishing Open Educational Resources within the NMOER program. The workflow defines responsibilities across multiple roles—author, OER editor, production editor, multimedia specialist, librarian, and collaborators—ensuring consistency, accessibility, and licensing compliance. It begins with manuscript preparation and image documentation, followed by editorial review, revisions, and technical accessibility checks. The process then moves into production, final review, metadata creation, archiving, and promotion. Emphasis is placed on proper formatting, use of the image log, Creative Commons licensing, accessibility standards, and iterative improvement through feedback and future editions. This workflow supports efficient publication while maintaining high-quality, accessible, and openly licensed educational materials.

The NMOER Workflow for Authors provides a step-by-step guide describing how Open Educational Resources move from initial submission to publication and dissemination. The document begins with content submission guidelines, requiring authors to provide instructional text in Word format, supply high-resolution images, and complete an image log with captions and accessibility text. It emphasizes early communication with the OER editor to address copyright, licensing, and accessibility considerations.
The workflow is organized into sequential stages with clearly assigned ownership. In manuscript preparation, authors draft content, format headings, record non-text content, and secure permissions. The editing phase includes developmental editing, copyediting, licensing review, and alignment with learning outcomes. Authors then revise materials before a final editorial review confirms readiness for production. The preparation for production stage focuses on technical checks such as image quality, alt-text verification, and accessibility compliance.
During production, the multimedia specialist applies Pressbooks themes, integrates images and interactive content, and ensures visual consistency and usability. Authors then review the project and provide final edits prior to release. The workflow concludes with metadata assignment, DOI creation, archiving, and export into multiple formats, followed by marketing and promotion activities designed to encourage adoption and adaptation by other instructors. Overall, the workflow emphasizes collaboration, accessibility, licensing clarity, and iterative improvement through feedback and future editions.
