Abstract
Need for the materials. For many years the elementary instrumental music classes in the public schools have used primarily only materials of an instructional nature. The principal goal was to prepare the students for the high school band or orchestra. However, more and more music educators are recognizing the need for interesting materials to provide enjoyable musical experiences for the elementary students. Most of the materials that have been published for the elementary classes seem to fall into one of two categories. They are either written very simply with little or no musical value, or if they contain any musical value, they overlook some very difficult problems for young students.
