This video demonstrates the preparation process for creating a multi-section pamphlet stitch book, which allows a thicker book to be constructed from several separate gatherings of pages. The instructor prepares three sections, each of which will eventually be attached to the spine using its own three-hole pamphlet stitch. The process begins by determining the number of folios in each section and measuring their combined thickness to establish the appropriate spine width. A soft cover is then folded to create the spine, and jigs are made to accurately plan and align the sewing stations in both the cover and individual sections. Using an awl or large needle, the sewing holes are punched so that the holes in each section correspond with those in the spine. Finally, the instructor explains how to measure, cut, and wax the thread needed for sewing and discusses options for reinforcing or decorating the spine. By the end of the preparation, the cover, sections, sewing stations, and threads are ready for the final binding process.
