How to create an eight-panel accordion book by expanding the basic four-panel accordion-folding technique? The instructor begins with a single piece of paper, checks the grain, folds it in half, and emphasizes carefully aligning the corners and edges because the accuracy of the first fold affects all subsequent folds. The existing valley folds are reversed to create mountain folds, and each mountain is then brought toward the designated edge to form additional evenly spaced panels. Throughout the process, the folds are reinforced and the alignment is repeatedly checked to prevent the accordion from becoming uneven. This method produces an accurately folded eight-panel accordion without requiring a ruler because the paper and existing folds serve as the measurements. The instructor explains that the same process can be continued to create a 16-panel accordion or an accordion spine for attaching additional pages, and the completed book can be placed under weight overnight to help set the folds.
