Abstract

Neck masses in young individuals are often chased as potential lymphomas or peripheral nerve sheath tumors by the clinicians. These patients usually undergo fine-needle aspiration biopsy as the first-line management which often reveals epithelioid cells with nuclear pleomorphism. This can lead to potential pitfalls in diagnosis. However, with the aid of immunohistochemical (IHC) markers, such as GATA3, a precise diagnosis of paraganglioma can be reached that can help clinicians achieve accurate and timely management of this rare neoplasm.
