Abstract
Dr. Zumwalt is responsible for training the largest group of forensic pathologists in America. This textbook serves as his legacy, as it exemplifies how he approaches the concept of death certification, death investigation, the forensic autopsy, and ancillary laboratory studies. The collection of case studies presented for each of the five manners of death (natural, accident, suicide, homicide, and undetermined) are not designed to be comprehensive, but rather, should give the forensic pathology trainee or pathology resident feel for the type of cases that a forensic pathologist would encounter on a day-to-day basis and be a blueprint on how to approach the cases and work them up satisfactorily to come to a competent determination of cause and manner of death.
