Abstract
The report highlights the difficulty of publishing reliable retail sales statistics due to limitations in School Tax data and analyzes recent business activity using banking indicators, noting that “there is no readily available substitute for measuring changes in retail sales volume.” It concludes that modest increases in bank debits suggest slightly improved business conditions compared with the prior year.
