Abstract

This report documents a rare statewide decline in retail sales—“estimated retail sales in August… were four and a half per cent below August of last year”—with severe downturns concentrated in De Baca, Chaves, and mining‑dependent southern counties. It also analyzes school tax collections as a proxy for economic activity, showing sharp post‑war increases and major shifts in county and industry contributions.
